Recharge your battery with a battery charger designed for your battery. Simply driving your car for any period of time will not fully recharge the battery, nor will just sitting idle with the engine running. Doing this when the battery is weak may even lower the battery capacity and shorten its life.
Charging a flat battery could take up to 48 hours depending on how flat it is. You can purchase a battery charger from our online shop or from one of our Auto Services centres.
No, you don’t need to be an RAC member to order a battery from us. Non-members can still enjoy our services at competitive prices, but as a member you’ll save 10%.

Truck, boat and 4WD batteries
Yes, we stock a large range of truck batteries. Truck batteries are generally ordered as required to ensure that we provide the correct battery of the right quality to suit the truck. However, there’s a large range of trucks that take car batteries. Call RAC on 13 11 11 for more information.
Yes, we stock a wide range of batteries to suit most types of 4WDs, from small to large. If you like the creature comforts when off road such as a fridge, camping lights or an inverter to charge your laptop then you'll need a dual battery.
Our dual battery range suits 4WDs, Caravans and RVs and is designed and manufactured to withstand the challenges of Australia's extreme off-road conditions including high temperatures, rough terrain and all those power-hungry accessories! Simply call 13 11 11 and we can help you.
Yes, we have a wide variety of marine batteries to suit your boat. Our batteries are designed and manufactured to withstand the toughest challenges of Australia's ocean conditions. We offer a range of batteries to fit a variety of boats, jet skis and yachts as well as deep cycle batteries for dual systems.
RAC marine batteries can be ordered and delivered to your door the same day for you to install – simply call 13 11 11 with your battery size and horsepower requirements.
Deep-cycle batteries are most commonly used to run accessories or additional features in vehicles, motorhomes and caravans. They’re separate from the batteries we fit to start your car and are designed to be discharged over many cycles (discharged and recharged is equal to one cycle) without adversely affecting the battery’s life. Deep-cycle batteries generally have thicker plates to reduce plate buckling and improve battery life. Some types of deep-cycle batteries can be used in marine vessels and jet-skis. They are measured in Amps.

The life of your car battery and when you need to replace it can vary due to many factors, including:
- Initial construction of the battery
- The climate where your vehicle is used (e.g. extremely hot or extremely cold weather)
- How often you use your vehicle
- How far you drive
- If your vehicle is regularly serviced and maintained
- If your battery is regularly maintained. As part of regular maintenance, we recommend charging your battery periodically with an appropriate battery charger.
All RAC Batteries are designed to withstand tough Australian conditions, we give you peace of mind with up to 3 year's nationwide warranty. If you have any questions about your RAC Batteries warranty, contact us on 13 11 11.
There are a few signs that indicate your battery may be starting to go, including:
- The engine cranks or turns over, but won't start
- The engine won't crank, and light and accessories don't turn on
- Your car battery shows signs of damage such as cracking, swelling and leaking
- You've needed to jump start your car a few times
If you suspect you have a flat battery or aren’t sure why you car won’t start, you can call 13 11 11 to arrange for one of our expert mechanics to help you get back on the road.
The general rule of thumb is that your battery will need replacing every three years, however your battery may need replacing earlier than that depending on your driving habits. RAC recommends charging your battery periodically with an appropriate battery charger, which may extend the useful life of the battery.
Our batteries are built to withstand tough Australian conditions, giving you peace of mind with up to 3 year's nationwide warranty.
A calcium battery is a lead acid battery with a calcium component (around 1%) added to both the positive and negative plates. This works to reduce water loss through gassing in the battery and allows the battery container to be fully sealed and maintenance-free. Many modern vehicles use calcium batteries as they are less likely to be affected by extreme weather conditions and higher charge rates. Calcium has been added by the manufacturer for many years.
CCA stands for ‘cold cranking amps’ and is the recognised industry standard for rating battery performance. It’s recommended that more power-hungry vehicles (through things like fitted accessories) use batteries with higher CCAs – the higher the CCA, the more powerful the battery.
The higher the cold cranking amp (CCA), the more powerful the battery, but the CCA you need depends on what you’re using the battery for. Batteries generally have a CCA of between 350 and 900 when new. At RAC, we can help you determine what is the best battery for your vehicle, call us on 13 11 11.
Sealed batteries are designed to only hold enough liquid to allow electrolytes within the battery to flow.
Sealed batteries are known to be maintenance free. It’s not necessary to add distilled water to sealed battery cells, so no maintenance is needed. However, under normal conditions the fluid level will last for the life cycle of the battery. All our batteries are maintenance free.
AGM batteries have an output higher than a calcium battery, making them suitable for hybrid cars or stop-start vehicles. The acid in an AGM battery is completely absorbed into glass mat separators, which are sandwiched between the negative and positive plates. The battery is sealed and designed to be maintenance-free, and the sandwich-style construction gives it an excellent resistance to vibration.
As part of regular maintenance we recommend charging your battery periodically with an appropriate battery charger. If you are having issues with or are unable to charge the battery with your battery charger then it is likely your battery is dead rather than flat. If you are unsure, you can give RAC a call and we can send one of our expert mechanics directly to take a look at your battery.
You can recycle your old lead-acid batteries by dropping them into any RAC Auto Services Centre to be passed on for recycling. We will then pass your battery on to a licenced recycling facility. RAC recycles more than 70,000 batteries each year. We want to see WA’s battery recycling rate at 100 per cent, to keep old batteries out of landfill and reduce any impacts on our environment. The good news is that over 97 percent of lead-acid batteries components can be recycled.
Although batteries often look similar, they are not all equal on the inside. Our batteries are built to last which is why they are backed with a nationwide warranty. We pride ourselves on providing high quality batteries, here are a few ways you can have peace of mind with RAC Batteries:
