How can teachers use RAC bstreetsmart?
RAC bstreetsmart aims to help educate Year 10 – 12 students on road safety and risk taking behaviour. The learning outcomes associated with RAC bstreetsmart align with the Western Australian Curriculum’s ‘Personal, social and community health’ strand of the Health and Physical Education learning area for Year 10 students.
In addition to attending the event, RAC recommends that schools attending RAC bstreetsmart also engage in additional road safety education in the classroom. Teacher guide (PDF 140KB) .
Pre - event activites
These activities can be delivered to students before attending RAC bstreetsmart
RAC's online education resources are designed to teach secondary school students about the importance of safe driving and being a responsible passenger, as well as the effects of alcohol, speed, reckless behaviour and driver inattention.
Our Fatal factors on the road resources will help students understand the fatal factors that contribute to road crashes and encourage them to consider strategies to make safer decisions.
Road Trauma Support WA is a state-wide service assisting anyone affected by road trauma, regardless of when the incident occurred or what level of involvement the person had. The organisation provides a wide range of support and education services.
This fact-sheet provides provides information about the feelings and emotions that students may encounter as a result of attending RAC bstreetsmart.
Students are encouraged to complete the clicktosave training program before attending RAC bstreetsmart. Schools can also receive free first aid training for students through the First Aid Focus Program.
Post-event activities
RAC bstreetsmart exposes students to the realities of road trauma, these activities provide students with the opportunity to understand their emotions and discuss the issues raised
These online resources enable students to reflect on the types of decisions and consequences they may be faced with as a passenger or driver and consider strategies that will help them make safer choices.

SDERA is the WA State Government's primary drug and road safety education strategy, working with schools and the community to provide education aimed at keeping young people safer.
