We asked our members to let us know their favourite spots, and most agreed by the ocean was the place to be. So here are some of your best-loved places for sunset fish and chips in Perth, along with some places nearby where you can pick up dinner.

South of the river

Fishing Boat Harbour, Fremantle

There’s nothing like enjoying some fresh fish and crispy chips at the home of the local fishing trade. As you’d expect, Freo’s Fishing Boat Harbour does fish and chips well. Find a spot on the grassed area near Bathers Beach and bathe in the twilight glow.

Cicerello’s

Located right on Fisherman’s Wharf, local fresh fish legends, Cicerello’s, has been on the site since 1903, with a big menu selection, from traditional battered fish and chips as well as a big selection of grilled fish and other seafood.

Twin Fin

Pick up some ‘fast-casual’ fish and chips at Twin Fin, which is right next door to Bathers Beach House. Choose from traditional fish and chips or go for one of the premium options.

South Beach, South Fremantle

Perch yourself on the beach or on the large, grassed reserve at South Beach for your sunset seafood feast. The north end of the beach near the Fremantle Sailing Club is also a dog beach so the whole family can come along. Down the other way you'll find amenities such as public toilets and a playground.

Sealanes

Just over the road at Sealanes Seafood Market you can also pick up takeaway fish and chips from their café. Choose from the freshest local fish, add chips and any number of other tasty seafood treats to your order.

Piscari Fish and Chips

Located on Hampton Road in Fremantle, this family-owned business has a simple menu with a focus on quality and freshness. Once you’ve picked up your order, head down South Street towards Marine Parade and turn left for South Beach.

Rockingham Foreshore

There’s no end of spots with amazing ocean views where you can sit down and tuck into your sunset fish and chips along the Rockingham foreshore. Churchill Park is closest to the colourful revitalised foreshore area and just north of that is the Bell Park Reserve. There are plenty of trees for shade along this grassy stretch if you arrive while it’s still sunny. You can pick up dinner just over the road at Rockingham Beach Fish and Chips, then afterwards, take a stroll along the beachfront boardwalk area and finish off the evening with an ice cream.

Arcade Fish and Chips

Within the same shopping area but around on Railway Terrace, you’ll find Arcade Fish and Chips, who have a handy online ordering system.

Mandurah Eastern Foreshore

Grassed area along the Mandurah Eastern Foreshore

Mandurah’s scenic Eastern Foreshore has been attracting locals and visitors for many decades. Today it’s still one of the prime spots to enjoy fish and chips by the water.

Watch the sun setting against the estuary backdrop while you enjoy your tasty takeaway. Claim your patch of parkland either near Mandurah’s landmark circular estuary pool, Kwillena Gabi, or near the large foreshore playground at the other end where the kids can keep themselves busy.

Cicerello's

Cicerello’s Mandurah continues this Fremantle seafood institution’s reputation for quality seafood. The store got a makeover last year, but the same delicious menu is still in place. Head to the Mandurah Boardwalk off Mandurah Terrace.

Jetty Fish N Burgers

Also located on Mandurah Terrace but down the other end is Jetty Fish N Burgers. Along with traditional fish and chip choices, you can get a seafood basket, salt and pepper squid, and chilli squid. There are also gluten-free options.

North of the river

Cottesloe Beach

The grass terraces on the beachfront at Cottesloe

This one is arguably one of Perth’s most iconic spots to enjoy fish and chips while the sun sets. Take your hot little parcel to the grassed terraces on the beachfront at Cott and watch the colours change as the sun dips below the horizon. The elevated views over the beach are a bonus here and there’s always a bit of a buzz in the evenings.

Amber Jacks

You can pick up your fish and chips just over the road on Marine Parade at Amber Jacks, where the seafood menu has everything from old-fashioned battered fish and chips to tempura-battered prawns.

Scarborough Beach

Offering much of the same vibe as the Cottesloe beachfront, the grassed areas around the amphitheatre on the beachfront in Scarborough are a magic spot to sit and watch the sun go down as you tuck into your fish and chip dinner. Or head a bit further north to the huge expanse of grass at Sunset Hill. As with Cottesloe, there’s always a vibrant atmosphere here at sunset with plenty of amenities all around.

Peters By The Sea

You won’t have to walk far for sunset views after picking up our order from Peters By The Sea. It’s right on the Esplanade in Scarborough, just over the road from grassy Sunset Hill – perfect.

Hillarys Boat Harbour

Nestled within the Hillarys Boat Harbour precinct, the grassed beachfront areas north and south of the Centre Groyne have awesome beach and harbour views. The sheltered beach here is great for a late afternoon swim before you get stuck into your fish and chip feast, even when the breeze is in. The calm waters also make it a great beach for the kids to have a dip as well.

Once the sun’s gone down, you can take a wander around Hillarys Boat Harbour and grab some desert. There are plenty of facilities by the beach, including showers and change rooms.

Batter Up Fish and Chips

Located on the Hillary’s Boardwalk, Batter Up has got traditional fish and chips covered. And for those who don’t feel like battering up, there are also grilled options to choose from as well.

City Beach

If the budget’s a bit tight for dinner at one of the restaurants fronting the ocean at City Beach, you can enjoy the same million-dollar views in your own alfresco dining spot – no reservations necessary. Grab your fish and chips and head to the grassed area right by the beach.

There’s a playground towards the northern end of the beach too, so the kids can run off some energy and build up an appetite before dinner. Public amenities available here include showers, change rooms and there’s plenty of parking close by.

The Groper and His Wife

This legendary fish and chip shop has been around for many decades. Head to the shopping complex on Grayton Road in City Beach to pick your hot little parcel, then head down The Boulevard towards the ocean.

Clancy’s Fish Bar

Clancy’s Beach Bar takeaway has a large menu that also features seafood options, including old-fashioned fish and chips and a seafood basket if you want a little more variety.
