RAC has extended Australia’s first Electric Highway further into WA’s South West, installing a new fast-charging station in Pemberton.
In partnership with the Shire of Manjimup, the new 50kW DC fast-charger has been installed in the carpark on Brockman Street near Hepple Place.
The new Pemberton charger means there are now 15 publicly accessible charging stations in the RAC Electric Highway®, which was launched as the first of its kind in Australia in 2015.
RAC Group Executive Social and Community Impact Patrick Walker said the new infrastructure will help support the uptake of electric and hybrid vehicles in Western Australia.
“We are excited to extend the RAC Electric Highway further into WA’s South West, reducing range anxiety and opening the road for EVs in our regional areas,” Mr Walker said.
“One of the biggest barriers for EVs in Western Australia continues to be access to charging infrastructure, and so we hope to see uptake increase as investment in infrastructure across regional WA grows.”
In addition to Pemberton, RAC has also installed 22kW AC charging stations at two of its holiday parks and resorts — RAC Karri Valley Resort and RAC Busselton Holiday Park.
“We’re thrilled to also be expanding our RAC Electric Highway to some of our Parks and Resorts, with charging infrastructure now installed in both Karri Valley and Busselton, allowing guests and other EV drivers to re-charge while exploring and enjoying their stay in our South West,” Mr Walker said.
“We hope that by opening up more of our great State to EVs, it will help to support the transition to a cleaner and more sustainable transport system in WA.”
